Can you say "carry-ons only"??
Oh yeah, we did it! Two weeks of necesseties (and some not-so-necessities, like chocolate, but Jason would disagree) for 3 people in 2 carry-on bags and 2 backpacks. If you only knew what a big deal that was for me you'd be amazed too! We even got everything packed LAST NIGHT, so this morning was just tidying up, saying goodbye to the cats (pathetic, I know) and taking video of our yard and home so we can show Jia when we're in China. We spent last night looking at each other saying "This is the last time it will be just the two of us in this house. Weird!"
We fly out at 2:20 p.m. tomorrow (Seattle) and arrive in Beijing Friday night at 9:25 p.m. Saturday we tour the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and Tienamen Square. Sunday we fly to Changsha (late evening) and meet Jia Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Civil Affairs Office. We'll keep you posted!
By the way, for those of you inclined to pray for us, our biggest fear right now is the initial meeting with Jia. Please pray she won't have too hard of a time and that we will be able to comfort her during her transition. Thank you, and we'll see you on the other side of the world!

I am so happy for you all. What a happy family you will be. Lot's of love. Your Sister Steph
Jason & Krysta,
I just want you to know that my love and prayers are with you. I hope you check the blog from China as I am in the Caribbean and can't call you to pray with you over the phone.
You are loved and Jia is(will be) too.
Blessings,
Matt Atkins
You've been in the air about four hours as I write this. Hope your flight is smooth and uneventful. Forget the luggage - you'll be so glad you don't have it after you get there!
Love, Sharon
You are well on your way by now. So glad to see you were able to update the blog the day before you left. Wow, you sound so composed and organized! Our prayers are with you all. Love you!

At 2:15 on Thursday, we heard the school intercom beep. Silence descended on the classroom. Then we heard: "Mr. and Mrs. Hess are now boarding their flight to China!" Cheers erupted followed by Todd leading a "hip, hip, HOORAY! hip, hip, HOORAY!". Your school is following you every step of the way.
I hope you had a relaxing (ha ha) flight!

A prayer for you:
"Lord keep them safe in the palm of your hand. Let the flights be on time and the journey a memorable one. I pray that Jia will feel so loved whe she meets her mommy & daddy. Please calm any fears she may have. I ask that the paperwork flow smoothly. Bless this new family! In Jesus' name, Amen"

Waiting for that TA!
I'm sure you are both way too Dearest Krysta and Jason,
By now you are in Beijing and hopefully getting settled into your room. I am assuming the airline agreed with you that your bags were all 'carry-ons'.
tired and excited to sleep, but I trust the Lord to take away enough of your anxiety to at least get enough rest to refresh you for your busy day tomorrow.
You are always in my prayers, but lately there has been an additional little person I have included, my first GRAND baby, Jia Hess. God doesn't make mistakes so you are the mommy and daddy she has spent the last two years waiting to meet.
I will be interested in following your trip here on your blog. Wish I could be with you to experience your joy as you are introduced to each other for the first time.
My abundant love to all three of you! God Bless

I'm not sure how the wording got moved around in my last comment...I'll try to do better. When you are referring to time in China, are you using our time here in the US or China time?
