What a difference a day makes!

As I write this, Jia is having her evening bath and I hear talking and squeals of laughter as Jason entertains her! She can be so silly and it is so fun to watch her crinkle up that nose and let out big belly laughs. She woke up much happier this morning and finally started to really "play" with her toys instead of just hording them. She would walk around the room carrying everything she could fit in her little hands and arms, and rarely would play with the things. (Bird, she LOVES the "quiet book"!) Today, however, was different. She is starting to feel much more at ease with us and we are so thankful! The only time she has really been cranky today is when she is tired. She had a bit of a melt down at nap time today. The benefit, though, is that she slept on my stomach for over an hour. She LOVES to be rocked to sleep and that has become a precious time for the two of us.

Today we had a bunch of paperwork to take care of (well, Jason did ;) and then this afternoon we went to a 3 story Wal-Mart! We bought Jia some squeaky shoes which China is famous for, but I had to take the squeakers out! We also got this great toy that has Chinese/English translations for about a gazillion words. You put a card in it and press the picture and it will say the English and the Chinese word. I think it's going to be a great help for Jia to learn English. We can tell she has quite a vocabulary of Chinese words already.

Tomorrow night we will fly about an hour to Guangzhou which will be the final leg of our trip. We are looking forward to a new hotel room but we will be sad that we are leaving Jia's province. While we're in Guangzhou Jia will have her medical exam. We are anxious to see how much she weighs and how tall she is. You should see her little jeans just hanging off her bottom! She just fits 18mo., and 24 mo. are a bit loose, especially the bottoms. She's not as tiny as a couple of girls in our group, but she is definitely petite. She has big feet though!

We want to thank you for your continued prayers, and for your words of encouragement while we've been away. It has been a blessing to hear from home. Only 6 days to go! We're looking forward to breathing some fresh air again (the pollution is unlike anything we've ever experienced--the sun disappears!) and to seeing familar sights and faces of home. In the meantime we are going to soak up every moment of China while we can. :)

I just keep staring at that adorable smile with the crinkled up nose. I can understand how it would make your heart melt, because it even melts mine. It is good to see her playing, smiling, and just 'being' with you both. I love that she is silly. I am praying for your family daily. Love you. Brie

I felt this huge sense of relief when I read the title of your blog, even before I saw the photos! I'm so happy things are better, and it's a joy to see Jia's smile and happy expression! Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Praising the Lord with you. She is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I love the crinkled up nose. Mitchell, our 11 year old, loves her eyes. Blessings to the three of you! "From the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another." John 1:16

I just have to say again what 'naturals' you two are! It's like you've been parents for years, not days (I never had a doubt!). So happy to hear today's news. Love you, Lindsay

Jason & Krysta,
Amy Clements from Evergreen forwarded me your blog site. We came home with our adopted daughter from Changsha (Jayden) in 2004. I have loved reading your posts and remembering when we were in Changsha...and then Guangzhou (which we loved). Your Jia is gorgeous. Something about those Changsha girls! It would be fun to meet sometime and get our girls together. We are right up the road from Evergreen. Have a great rest of the trip. We'll be praying for you all.

I just watched your video of Jia "feeding" the fish? "Hmmmm,do I give this to the fish (chicken, goat, horse) or do I eat it myself?" Kids around the world are the same.
Thanks for taking time to keep us up to date, moment by moment. We are all hooked watching your family grow closer every day. ME
